Our Philosophy

Almost Home

Here at Almost Home, we believe your child is a unique individual. Your child will receive love and personal care and attention that will allow him or her to develop their skills at their own pace. We achieve this by providing the following:

We treat each and every infant with respect and dignity.

We employ enthusiastic “get-on-the-floor” teachers who have a true desire to nurture and teach your child.

We provide the tools and resources necessary for your child to develop their intellectual, social, and emotional skills, as well as their gross and fine motor skills.

We believe that a baby’s first years are critical to their success later in life.

Because of this we keep you informed about your child’s progress and development.

We look forward to getting to know you and being a part of your child’s first year. We appreciate the trust you place in us, and consider it a privilege to be apart of your child’s life.

Our Teachers

Susie Schmitt

Susie Schmitt, Owner & Director

Hello, I am the owner and Director of Almost Home. Prior to founding almost Home Infant Care, I worked as a nanny for over 15 years and have worked in licensed daycare for 8 years. However, Almost Home is the best endeavor I have ever undertaken. I consider myself very blessed to have a wonderful staff and a successful “baby school”.

Grandma Millie

Grandma Millie

Hello. I am known as “Grandma Millie”, I am Susie’s mother, and although I am retired, I decide to come to Almost home and do “Grandma time”. What I most enjoy is rocking the babies and giving the their bottles. I love watching these little angels and all their antics. They are keeping me young!

Tera Waggoner

Lloren Taylor

Lloren Taylor

I am a sophmore in college, majoring in Communications/English. I am working my way through school. I like working at Almost Home because I love nurturing babies. I have worked at other daycares, but Almost Home is by far the best.

Samantha Willman

Samantha Willman

I am a mother of one (for now) eventually more will come. I would have to say the best thing about children is that no matter what kind of day you are having they will always find a way to put a smile on your face. Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…. it’s about learning to dance in the rain.

Julie Helm

Julie Helm

Hi, my name is Julie. I am blessed to be the mother of two children, David (23) & Tiffani (22), and the grandmother of the most adorable little 3 yr old boy. Everyone who knows me knows that I LOVE babies!! I am affectionately referred to as the “baby hog” in my family. Almost Home has been the perfect fit for me this past year and I am sure that you will find it to be the “perfect fit” for you and your baby as well. I consider it an honor that you trust me with your little one and I promise to love and care for them as if they were my own grandchildren.

Whitney Gowen

Whitney Gowen

Hi my name is Whitney. I am a college student, studying child psychology. I have been at
Almost Home for 1 year. I enjoy caring and teaching our babies. I love caring for our babies so much, I am also available for baby sitting evenings or weekends.

Our Facility

Lily Pond and Pooh’s Corner

In these rooms we have our 6 week to about 6 or 7 month babies. These rooms are designed to help babies adjust to “baby school.” Here, they have a quieter atmosphere and can get accustomed to napping in a different crib than their one at home. These babies still get their story, music, and activity time, just on a smaller scale.

Noah’s Ark and Fiddler’s Five

These rooms are for our older babies from about 6 or 7 months to 1 year old. When Mommy, Daddy, and baby are ready and when crib space is available, our babies from Lily Pond Park & Pooh’s Corner transition to these rooms.  Noah’s Ark & Fiddler’s Five have activities on a larger scale.  We fondly call these two rooms the “action rooms.” The babies here learn to stand, crawl and sometimes walk.  They also start “big people” food and learning to feed their selves in preparation for graduating to a big boy and girl school.  We also have more hands on activities for our babies to learn more about exploring their world.
